What to Expect on Your First Island Jeep Tour in Nassau
Three hours, six stops, one island. Here’s everything you need to know before you climb in and hit the road with Bowcar Rentals.
There’s a version of Nassau that most visitors never see. Not the cruise port shops, not the hotel pool, not the sanitized resort beach. The real Nassau — the forts, the fish fry, the colonial staircases, the local restaurants — is out there waiting. The jeep is how you find it.
Bowcar Rentals’ Island Jeep Tour has been running since 2002, and it remains one of the most popular ways to see Nassau for a reason: you cover the highlights of the entire island in just three hours, guided by someone who actually grew up here and knows every story behind every stone.
If you’re wondering what it’s actually like — what happens when you arrive, what you’ll see, whether it’s right for your group — this guide walks you through the whole experience from start to finish.
01 Jeep Tour vs ATV — Which Is Right for You?
Both tours cover Nassau’s best landmarks and cultural stops. The difference is in how you ride and who’s doing the driving.
Your guide leads the convoy the entire way, narrating the route and sharing the history and stories behind every stop. It feels like having a private tour, even in a group setting.
02 Before You Arrive — What to Prepare
There’s not much to organize. Here’s a quick checklist of what to bring and what to leave behind.
Arrive at least 15 minutes before your tour start time. If you’re coming from the cruise port, look for the Ground Transportation sign when you dock — we’re in the Rental Center with the Bowcar logo on the window. If you’re running late, call us on 1 242 557 2223 so we can help.
03 What the Tour Actually Looks Like
The Island Jeep Tour runs for three hours and takes you to Nassau’s most iconic landmarks and authentic local spots. Here’s what you’ll experience along the way.
Food tasting · Local culture
Historic landmark · Nassau heritage
Historic fort · Panoramic views
Food sampling · Bahamian tradition
Conch salad · Waterfront views · Local culture
Included lunch · Local restaurant
The open top of the jeep means you catch every sea breeze as you roll along the Nassau coastline. Your guide leads the way sharing history, jokes, and local knowledge at every stop. By the time you sit down to lunch at the end, the group of strangers you started with feels like old friends.

Nassau drives on the left, but your guide leads the convoy the entire way, so you’re never navigating on your own. You simply follow the vehicle ahead. Most guests find it much easier than they expected after the first few minutes.
Absolutely! Children of all ages are welcome on the Jeep Tour. Children 5 and under must be in a car seat — “available from us for a small additional fee. Just let us know when booking and we’ll have one ready for you”. The jeep comfortably seats the whole family and kids love the open-air ride and food stops especially.
The tour includes your guide, the vehicle, the all food tastings along the route, and a full Bahamian lunch at the end. From $122 per person (fees & taxes added at checkout) — everything is taken care of.
We keep groups small so every guest gets a genuine, personal experience. We also offer private tours for groups of 4 and up — perfect for families, couples, or corporate outings. Call us on 1 800 558 1364 to arrange a private booking.
Nassau weather is generally beautiful, but tropical showers happen. Tours are rarely cancelled due to light rain — the open jeep makes for a pretty dramatic experience in a light shower, actually. In the case of severe weather, we’ll always reach out in advance and arrange a full refund or reschedule.
It’s one of our most popular cruise excursions. The tour fits comfortably within a typical port day and we pick up directly from the cruise port. Just make sure to note your ship’s departure time when you book so we can plan accordingly.
05 After the Tour
Three hours goes fast when you’re having this much fun. By the time the jeep pulls back in, you’ll have seen more of Nassau than most people manage in an entire holiday — and you’ll have the full stomach and the photos to prove it.
Most guests say the lunch stop is their favourite part. Others say it’s the Queen’s Staircase. A few say it’s just the feeling of cruising along the Nassau coastline with the wind coming through the open top. Whatever it is for you, the tour has a way of becoming the highlight of the trip.
Sitting down to a proper Bahamian lunch at a local restaurant, looking around the table at the people you started the morning not knowing, realising this was the best decision you made in Nassau. It happens on almost every tour.
