What to Expect on Your First Island Jeep Tour in Nassau

Three hours, six stops, one island. Here’s everything you need to know before you climb in and hit the road with Bowcar Rentals.

Guided tour 3 hours Groups welcome From $122 per person

There’s a version of Nassau that most visitors never see. The real Nassau — the forts, the fish fry, the colonial staircases, the local restaurants — is out there waiting. The jeep is how you find it.

Bowcar Rentals’ Island Jeep Tour has been running since 2002 and remains one of the most popular ways to see Nassau. You cover the highlights of the entire island in just three hours, guided by someone who actually grew up here and knows every story behind every stone.

03 What the Tour Actually Looks Like

The Island Jeep Tour runs for three hours and takes you to Nassau’s most iconic landmarks and authentic local spots.

Rum Cake Factory
Your first stop sets the tone perfectly. Rum cake is as Bahamian as it gets — rich, moist, soaked in local rum. At the factory you’ll hear the history and sample several varieties.
Food tasting · Local culture
Queen’s Staircase
Hewn entirely from solid limestone rock by enslaved people between 1793 and 1794. The 66 steps lead directly to Fort Fincastle. Your guide brings the history to life in a way no guidebook can.
Historic landmark · Nassau heritage
Fort Charlotte
Built in 1788 by Lord Dunmore, Fort Charlotte is the largest fort in New Providence. Commanding views of Nassau Harbour and Paradise Island. Your guide walks you through the full history.
Historic fort · Panoramic views
Tasty Teas — Food Sampling
Discover the world of Bahamian bush teas — a tradition rooted deep in island culture. Sample several exotic iced tea blends and learn the fascinating stories behind each one.

Arawak Cay — The Fish Fry
The cultural heartbeat of Nassau. Watch a local crack and prepare fresh conch salad right in front of you. Stunning views of Western Esplanade Beach and the Nassau Harbour Lighthouse.

Bahamian Lunch
The tour wraps up with a proper sit-down Bahamian lunch at one of Nassau’s locally owned restaurants. Fresh seafood, native sides, and the kind of meal you’d struggle to find on your own.

What it feels like

The open top of the jeep means you catch every sea breeze as you roll along the Nassau coastline. Your guide shares history, jokes and local knowledge all the way. By the time you sit down to lunch, the group of strangers you started with feels like old friends.

04 Your Questions Answered

“I’ve never driven on the left side of the road before — is that okay?”

Nassau drives on the left, but your guide leads the convoy the entire way. You simply follow the vehicle ahead. Most guests find it much easier than expected after the first few minutes.

“Can my kids come?”

Absolutely! Children of all ages are welcome on the Jeep Tour. Children 5 and under must be in a car seat — please bring your own. Kids love the open-air ride and food stops especially.

“What’s included in the price?”

The tour includes your guide, the vehicle, all food tastings along the route, and a full Bahamian lunch at the end. From $122 per person (fees & taxes added at checkout).

“How big are the groups?”

We keep groups small for a personal experience. Private tours available for groups of 4 and up. Call 1 800 558 1364 to arrange a private booking.

“What if it rains?”

Tours are rarely cancelled due to light rain. In case of severe weather we’ll always reach out in advance and arrange a full refund or reschedule.

“Is this good for cruise ship passengers?”

One of our most popular cruise excursions. The tour fits comfortably within a typical port day and we pick up directly from the cruise port.

05 After the Tour

Three hours goes fast when you’re having this much fun. By the time the jeep pulls back in, you’ll have seen more of Nassau than most people manage in an entire holiday.

The moment guests remember most

Sitting down to a proper Bahamian lunch at a local restaurant, looking around the table at the people you started the morning not knowing, realising this was the best decision you made in Nassau.
